Building an empire: What does it take?

I've been thinking. That in itself is a big problem for me. Thinking. I was at a Burbank Chamber of Commerce mixer last week and a friend whom I had invited as a guest came. Sh was referred to me by a mutual friend because she wants to start a business and our mutual friend suggested that she talk to me because I have managed to create something that some people think is impressive. To me it's no big deal, and nothing compared to where I see myself in the future, but for sure I can acknowledge tremendous progress in my career and in building what I am working at every minute of every day, waking and sleeping. People do this with me. About once per month, sometimes more someone asks me to sit with them and talk with them about what I do and how I do it etc... Of course I am flattered and I am only too happy to do it. In fact I need to be doing that. I need to be calling on people who are at least on some level where I would like to be in the future and invite them out to lunch. Ask them questions just like people do with me. This is actually suggested in a book I am reading by Jack Canfield called "The Power Of Focus: What The World's Greatest Achievers Know About The Secret of Financial Freedom and Success." In this book Jack Canfield tells you to find people whom you regard as successful and ask them out to lunch to pick their brains. Find out about their habits. How do they structure their days? Interview them. I find out what they do, so I can do what they do so I can have what they've got.
My friend Gretchen asked me how I got into what I am doing now. I don't know if she was really bargaining for this and it wasn't MY immediate thought to do this but the next thing I know I am telling her my life story. She thanked me and told me it was very inspiring. I hope so, it took about 2 hours and I was trying to keep it short and only hit the highlights. It's really strange when you take a good look at yourself. A friend of many years who played a significant role in many of those times just recently passed at age 39. I didn't mention this to her. It wasn't necessary, but I was thinking about him a lot when I was telling the story of how I left Prudential Securities to go work at his firm just before I had to leave that business.
What makes a person successful? Am I any different from the guys I went to high school with that are working regular jobs and living good family lives? Well yeah, I don't work a 9-5 and mine is hardly the "normal" family life. I think the core difference between me and them is that I WANT this. REALLY bad. To the point of obsession and according to what I am now reading in "Think And Grow Rich" this is what it takes. You have to have the desire with a definite purpose and you have to truly believe in your inner most soul that your success has already happened. You have to feel that.
Here are 6 steps I read in T.A.G.R. that need to be taken to bring in wealth:

Here are 6 steps I read in T.A.G.R. that need to be taken to bring in wealth:
- Be definite as to the amount.
- Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire.
- Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
- Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once.
- Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intent to accumulate it.
- Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.
